Verification steps may differ based on where you are coming from, but in general, Academic pricing requires an .edu (or equivalent) email address for the order, plus a URL pointing at a page hosted at your institution with identifying information on it. If such a page isn't available, then a faxed copy of the faculty ID or equivalent may be accepted.
For students, an .edu (or equivalent) email address for the order is required, plus a faxed copy of the student ID or schedule for the current educational period are required as proof of eligibility. Further, the student licenses expire after one calendar year and are hardware-locked to a particular computer. Once you have registered with that computer, you will have to contact support if you need to move the license to another computer.
